If you purchase a 4-Post 80" Athena™ please be aware of the following: The Logo Plate Crossmember restricts trolley height, affecting usable space for J-Cup placement. We would advise individuals use caution while squatting with the trolleys above the bar when unracking and reracking the barbell.*
The Athena™ side-mount functional trainer is a low-profile cable attachment that integrates into the side of your PR-4000 or PR-5000 series power rack. Get the functionality of a functional trainer machine so you can build your body and get in accessory and isolation work, without needing space for a stand-alone unit. Save even more gym space with our In-rack, Off-rack, or Wing Add-on storage options. In addition, it provides a lower price point (and smaller footprint) than the Ares™ Attachment, which includes a lat pulldown and low row. The Athena™ features a 2:1 pulley ratio, which means 20lbs feels like 10lbs. Choose between a plate-loaded or selectorized version. The plate-loaded version features weight horns that have a loadable length of 10.6" each and a max weight capacity of 540lbs (feels like 270lbs). The selectorized version utilizes weight stacks, each stack weighing 170lbs per side (feels like 85lbs) with the option to upgrade each stack to 220lbs (feels like 110lbs). The weight stacks feature hot-rolled steel plates with a 3% tolerance and a magnetic pin for quick and easy weight changes. Add bands, on either version, to the integrated band pegs on the base and headplate for added resistance.
The Athena™ gives you the freedom to customize your rack's functionality by choosing either a left, right, or dual-sided setup. The patent-pending Athena™ features a trolley that allows you to do cable work at any height on the upright and is lined with special plastic to protect it. The oversized pop-pin makes it easy to adjust with one hand. The trolley includes a pin for added security while in use. The Athena's™ cables are made from high-quality, galvanized wire with a raw steel core. The pulleys are made from strong aluminum and the front pulleys have a 180-degree swivel for versatility when working outside the rack. The attachment comes with a urethane D Handle attachment and is compatible with a wide assortment of cable attachments.
Note: The plate-loaded Athena™ cannot clear weight horns loaded with any size diameter plates. See FAQ for alternative weight horn configurations. The selectorized Athena™ comes with six 2" spacers (per unit) for your rear storage weight horns. The weight stack cannot clear past standard 17.7" diameter plates without the use of the spacers.

How We Built The Athena™ - Side-Mount Functional Trainer
A close look at how to use the Athena™ and what makes it different than a stand-alone functional trainer.
BLOGS
The left-sided and right-sided orientations are determined when facing the rack.
- Place your weight horns on the back of your rear storage upright.
- Purchase an additional pair of uprights and a set of 30" crossmembers and build your weight storage out to the side. See Here
- Save space using the Wall Mounted Plate Storage.
- If space is not an issue, we offer many other off-the-rack weight plate storage options.
The band peg on the weight stack cannot clear past standard 17.7” diameter plates without the use of the spacers. It can clear past smaller plates. The spacers also prevent you from pinching your fingers between the weight stack and the plates when loading onto the weight storage pins.
Yes, but only if you purchase the Rear Base Stabilizer 2.0. The new RBS 2.0 mounts to the sides of the uprights instead of the rear. This allows the RBS 2.0 to not interfere with the stack or carriage that sits inside the 16" crossmembers. The RBS 2.0 also allows you to mount your safeties at a lower position.
If you have a 4-Post Athena™, you must mount the RBS 2.0 and lat pulldown and low row to the back uprights.
Yes. A conversion kit (coming soon) will provide the necessary components to turn your 4000 or 5000 series Side-Mount Functional Trainer attachment into the selectorized attachment. The selectorized attachment allows you to change the weight using a pin and weight stack instead of plates.
The plate-loaded Athena™ is ideal for the lifter looking for a lower-cost machine, owns a sizable plate collection, and is okay with creating an alternative weight storage solution to storing weights on the side of the rack.
The selectorized Athena™ is ideal for people who want the magnetic pin for quick and easy weight changes, want to continue to use their existing weight storage system, and don’t own a large plate collection. Both have a max weight capacity of 540lbs. The selectorized Athena™ can integrate bands to reach that max.
Only the PR-4000 6-post and PR-5000 series power racks are compatible. For the PR-4000, you must have the updated 16” crossmembers with vertical holes. PR-5000 owners should verify they own the updated PR-5000 power rack, which has 1” holes along the upright, whereas the original has alternating 5/8” holes and 1” holes. The original was discontinued in 2020. The attachment is not compatible with the discontinued version.
The Athena™ is not compatible with any flat-footed rack configuration (OMNI, Apollo, or the original HR-5000) or with a 4-post PR-4000.
This depends on which configuration you choose. There are configuration descriptions to see what is or is not included with each configuration. For the PR-4000, you will need to upgrade the 16” crossmembers if the ones you currently own don't have vertical holes.
Yes. If you order an 80” rack, the 93” attachment will not be compatible. Vice versa, if you order a 93” rack, the 80” attachment will not be compatible.
The plate-loaded Athena™ attachment adds 7.9” of depth to the front of your rack (trolley), 1.8” of height (top pulleys), and 12.3” of width per side (weight horns). The selectorized Athena™ adds 7.9” of depth to the front of your rack (trolley), 1.8” of height (top pulleys), and either 3.7” (PR-4000 bottom band peg) or 5.0” (PR-5000 trolley handle) of width.
The cable travel is 82.8” for the 80” attachment and 106” for the 93” attachment.
The lowest usable weight for the plate-loaded version is 7lbs (empty carriage). The lowest usable weight setting on the selectorized version is 10lbs.
We cannot guarantee compatibility due to machining/manufacturing differences between companies.
The Athena™ will ship ground or freight depending on quantity purchased (left, right, or dual-sided) or if the unit(s) are purchased in conjunction with other large/heavy items.
Structural welds on attachments and frames have a lifetime warranty. Pop-pins, pulleys, bearings, and cables have a one-year warranty.
The Globe Front Mount Pull-up Bar is not compatible with the 41”+ 16” configuration for either the 4000 or 5000 Series Athena™+Rack. The Globe Pull-up Bar was updated in 2020. The older version will not work with any configuration of the Athena™.
*If you purchase the Globe Pull-up Bar there will be some rubbing with the cables.*
*The 4-post Athena™+Rack Builder does not display a pull-up bar that is compatible with the configuration (...yet).*
The amount of bumper plates you can store depends on the size. You can store up to 13 45lb Competition Bumper Plates per shelf. When using 45lb REP Pinnacle Plates, you can store up to 12. When using the Black Bumper Plates, you can store up to 13. Each shelf can hold three medicine balls at a time. With slam balls you can store up to four REP 5-30lb Slam Balls or three REP 35-70lb Slam Balls per 41” shelf.
You can fit pairs of 5lb-20lb, 25lb-35lb, 40lb-50lb, 55lb-65lb, 70lb-75lb, 80lb-85lb, 90-95lb, or 95-100lb dumbbells on a single 41” shelf. You can fit a full set of our 5-50lb dumbbells on three 41” dumbbell shelves. Rubber Coated Dumbbells are not compatible.
Each shelf has a usable area of 3.13 square feet. It will depend on the size of the kettlebells, and the orientation you choose to store them (single or staggered). You can stagger pairs of 8kg-18kg(6 pairs), pairs of 10kg-20kg(6 pairs), pairs of 16kg-22kg(4 pairs), pairs of 20kg-24kg(3 pairs), pairs of 22-28kg(3 pairs), pairs of 24-32kg(3 pairs), pairs of 36kg-40kg(2 pairs), or pairs of 44kg-48kg(2 Pairs) of Kettlebells (kg) on a single shelf.
The Dumbbell Storage Shelf, Kettlebell Storage Shelf, and Ball & Plate Storage Shelf have a weight capacity of 600lbs.
We do not recommend installing them any higher than 60”.
The 41" shelves plus additional upright will add 46" in width per side.
15.9" will be added to the depth of the rack with the Elbow Brackets, Mini Front Foot Extensions, and shelves.
