The main difference between the original RBS and the current is where they mount to the rack. The original mounts to the rear of the uprights and the current RBS mounts to the inside of the uprights. This change makes it more compatible with future attachments without compromising stability.
No, this is not compatible with the Ares Cable Attachment.
The Rear Base Stabilizer adds stability and function to your rack. It is a required anchor point for the Lat and Low Row Attachment for racks of all depths and it increases stability of a power rack by minimizing lateral movement.
Although the Athena Side-Mount Functional Trainer does not require the use of a RBS, the new design of the RBS is compatible with the Athena Side-Mount Functional Trainer (single side or dual side). Note: The original RBS is not compatible with the Athena Side-Mount Functional Trainer (single side or dual side).
The RBS adds 9.5” to the depth of a four-post rack. It does not add any depth to a six-post rack when mounted on the center uprights.
We only recommend this for the 41” depth crossmembers because shorter crossmembers don’t allow as much distance between the uprights, which reduces stability within the rack. Therefore, we recommend bolting down racks of other sizes, even with the RBS.
That being said, if you use the Iso Arms, Spotter Arms, or Globe Pull-Up Bar, you do want to bolt your rack down (even the 41” crossmembers with the Rear Base Stabilizer). With those attachments, you need to add Front Foot Extensions to keep the rack stable.

Adds a lot of stability to the rack. Heavy duty just like re rest of the rack and doesn't interfere with incline benching. Wish it came in matte black to match the cross members but not a huge deal.

Works as intended. I like the 2.0 orientation so you can flip it inside the rack , mount your lat pull down/ low row and take up minimal floor space with maximum functionality.
